Top Athletic Awards

The Cougar Athletic Department presented the Female and Male Athletes of the Year, and an Outstanding Career Achievement Award.

The HPCA Cougar Athletes of the Year are chosen by the coaches. Preference is given to an athlete who has participated in more than one Varsity sport, and was chosen All-Conference and/or All-State in at least one of them. These athletes show leadership skills on a consistent basis on their teams. Congratulations to junior Maggie Williams and senior Dre Davis.

The Outstanding Career Achievement Award is given when there is an athlete that goes over and above All-State, Conference Player of the Year, and/or All-Conference. This athlete has not only had an outstanding career for the Cougars, but has had amazing achievements on their travel/club team.
(Examples: Nationally ranked, All-Region or All-American, Olympic team or tryouts.) This award is not given every year.  Congratulations to senior Sydney Rowan.

Maggie Williams played all three seasons – she played Varsity Tennis in the fall, was All-Conference in Basketball in the winter, and was a starter on the girls Varsity Soccer team this spring.  On the basketball team, “She was the lifeblood of our basketball team and the spiritual leader of the team. On the court, Maggie did everything for our team. She led the team in scoring, assists, steals and rebounding.”  For soccer, “Maggie impacted our soccer team both on and off the field. Her hard work and desire to get better each day pushed our team to a higher level. She is a servant leader in our program.”

Dre Davis also played in all three sports seasons – he was All-State in Football, a starter on the Basketball team and All-Conference in Track in the spring.  For the back-to-back state champion football team, “Dre was an impact player on our team. He was 2nd in receptions and yards. Teams had to change their defenses to cover him.”  For basketball, “He is not only physically gifted but he worked very hard each day at practice. Dre was a joy to coach.”  And in Track & Field, “Dre is a tremendous athlete with unlimited potential. He is one of the best sprinters in the 3A. He won every 100 and 200 except one this spring. He finished 2nd in the shot put in the conference.”
