National Merit Finalist

We have a National Merit Finalist! Congratulations to senior Austin Perryman.

Praised for his academic performance and dedication to excellence, Austin was named a Finalist for the 2017 National Merit Scholarship. His abilities, skills, leadership, and accomplishments will be considered as they make final selections for all winners.

The path to becoming a finalist began in junior year when he, along with about 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools, took the PSAT. The highest-scoring students in each state became part of the nationwide pool of semifinalists, which represents less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors.  Austin was notified in the fall that he was a semifinalist.

Semifinalists submit a detailed application focused on a student’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, leadership abilities, employment, honors and awards. The students also must write an essay, submit letters of recommendation, and earn SAT scores that confirm their PSAT performance.
