“Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”
The Choral Program at HPCA has been a highlight of HPCA’s achievements and a enjoyable experience to witness at Fall, Winter, and Spring Concerts. The Choral Program consists of a Middle School Chorus (7th, 8th), High School Concert Chorus (9th-12th), and a Women’s Ensemble (9th-12th). Choral students engage in several performance opportunities including quarterly school performances, as well as visitations to retirement homes, and destination visits such as Walt Disney World (visited in Spring 2016)!
The Middle School Chorus starts with the basics of music theory and applies their knowledge to multicultural pieces that celebrate the Lord. This school year we have performed for the Green Street Baptist’s Sonshine Fellowship and visited the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to experience Amahl and the Night Visitors in opera. We are also preparing for our annual trip to Carowinds where in 2017 we will compete in their annual Music Festival. In 2016, we received an Excellent in the NCMEA’s Music Performance Adjudications.
The High School Concert Choir is one of HPCA’s most acclaimed and successful arts departments with accolades from Walt Disney World’s Music Festival (receiving a Superior rating), NCMEA’s Music Performance Adjudications (receiving a Superior and Excellent), to the Heritage Festival (receiving an Excellent rating). The High School Concert Choir consists of men and women from 9th-12th grade and we have participated in visitations to local retirement homes as well as local, regional, and national choral competitions. Most importantly, the students enjoy singing together and glorifying God through their music.
The Women’s Ensemble is an extra curricular small ensemble that meets for school credit before school three times weekly. High School ladies enjoy this time to sing music that is directly arranged for female voices and showcases the wide range of music within the small ensemble spectrum. The Women’s Ensemble participates in the same events at the Concert Choir and has had the honor of receiving Excellents in each competition in which they participated in 2016.
In the 2016-2017 school year, the choral department invited a new director to HPCA. Abigail Hart is a third-year teacher who is excited to be a part of HPCA’s Arts Department. Hart’s experience ranges from performances in Carnegie Hall to directing several church choirs and handbell choirs in the Triad Area. She has been a part of a regional competitive acapella group and the UNCG Women’s Corrale in recent years and she enjoyed singing second alto in her home church. She is delighted to be share in the HPCA’s choral legacy.
